It’s been a while since we have posted here. We’ve been busy. Really busy. We’re working of a number of new products and a new software application, all of which are nearing fruition – so watch this space.
At DataBadger we have a passion for control systems and data logging. So far, we have released a small selection of data loggers, but this is just the first step. Many people are now using our loggers and our BadgerView software to gather data from their applications for analysis. Our plan is for the data loggers to form the input part of a control system – but what about the rest you may ask?
DB105 Digital I/O & Analogue Voltage Input
We introduce the DB105 device, which offers digital input and output capability, as well as analogue inputs. Using this device, the user can remotely switch outputs via a Wi-Fi connection, enabling the development of a distributed control system. But the device also features both digital and analogue inputs, enabling a huge range of control system applications.

The DB105 is fully compatible with BadgerView, allowing the device control lines and analogue voltages to be controlled, read, and logged. However, the real power of this unit is in the prototyping and development of closed loop control applications. The image below shows an example application, in which the DB105 is used alongside one of our DB101 thermocouple data loggers to develop a simple temperature control system.

Temperature information is read by the DB101 thermocouple data logger. This data is processed in software (more on this later) and a decision is made on whether the heater should be switched on or off, using the DB105 I/O device. As both devices are Internet of Things (IOT) capable, they may be a great distance from one another and can be retrofitted into existing applications.
Crunching The Numbers
Right now, if someone wanted to develop the control system in the image above, they would need to use our software API. This would allow a developer to interface with our devices, read their data, and control outputs. This means that a full control system can be developed with only (a few lines of) code. This is one of the aims of DataBadger; to allow engineers and software developers to create and/or prototype control systems without having to develop hardware. But what if you don’t code?
Don’t worry, we are developing (among other things) a new software application which will allow the development of control systems without code. This is being kept reasonably under wraps right now, but watch this space. The eventual aim is a productivity application, which will allow the rapid development of distributed control systems. We plan to allow ideas to be tested easily and quickly without hardware or software design.
